Crawler
crawler.jpg (59K) 800x600
Another illustration from Frank Herbert's Dune. Here a Spice
Harvester rolls through the safety of rocky land toward a patch of spice. Herbert described the crawler as
a big and tan beetle. That never clicked in my mind. I always envisioned it as a rolling
factory on wheels--metallic and dirty.

Terraformer

I've been playing with the idea of modelling a terraforming ship for a while now. I jokingly call this my "Spam Ship" since the design idea hit me while looking at a can of Spam on a grocery shelf. I haven't worked the can key into the design yet.

Transition From Tachyon Space
tachjump.jpg (27K) 584x456
A terraforming ship slips from faster-than-light tachyon space into star-speckled "real" space. When writing of the same scene, I always describe the transition as the ship not being there and in the blink of an eye being there without flashes of light or explosions. Writers can be real nasty when it comes to easing the burdens of the illustrator.

Ringed Planet

A return of my terraforming ship--this time it bypasses a ringed, blue world.
